My name is Gloria Ramirez; I was born in Bogota Colombia. I finished my High School studies at Aurelio Tobon and did my University Studies at Universidad Nacional (SENA), majoring in Hotel Administration with a specialty in Bars and Restaurants. I came to the United States with my husband Juan Ramirez in 1990. I studied and graduated the ESL Program at the Suffolk Community College in Selden, NY.

For the first twenty-one years in this country I worked at Meson Ole, Mexican Restaurant as an assistant manager (administrative) and for the past twenty-seven years I’ve always lived in Long Island, New York. My husband and I have 5 children together; two of them have served and one is currently serving in the Armed Forces of the United States. My daughter Angela Layampa served 6 years active duty in the Air Force and it’s currently working at the Department of Veterans Affairs. My son Camilo Ramirez, also served 6 years active Duty in the Marines and was deployed to Afghanistan multiple tours. He is currently studying full time. Lastly, my son Ricardo Ramirez is currently serving in the NAVY for the past 8 years and is in the Mediterranean Sea on a Special Mission right now.

About eight years ago, I joined the wonderful organization of Love Without Barriers Foundation JCL, where I’ve been able to work with an outstanding group of volunteers who work unarguably for the welfare of those who have been less fortunate. I currently served as a Deacon and I’m one of the Program Coordinators for this great Foundation that has more than 20 prevention and supporting programs available for our communities.
